Living Poetry

I am the director of The Living Poetry Project whose goal is to create poetry everywhere and anywhere. Through this project I build community by collaborating with students, workers and shoppers who are surprised by hidden poems in the pockets of jeans on a store’s sale rack. I may burn a Rumi poem into small pieces of wood left scattered in a restaurant or write a poem on a T-shirt and give it away to reimagine poetry’s influence in the everyday and enliven and deepen momentary and isolated experiences.  From 2015 – 2019 I organized a full day community event called “Poetry Circus.” I rented the carousel in Griffith Park and invited a picnicking community of over five hundred to participate in arts activities and free carousel rides.

The Poetry Circus

I am the creator of The Poetry Circus, a community event that combines workshops, performances, and literary outreach programs. Blurring the line between performer and audience, it offers an immersive experience where everyone can join the circus. Featuring poets, performers, and literary organizations, celebrating poetry's egalitarian nature and its ability to connect people through metaphor.
